The sleepy little port town of LABUHANBAJO is the gateway to Flores from the islands of Komodo and Sumbawa, a delightful journey past myriad tiny green islands. Ferries arrive late in the afternoon and are met by touts and boats waiting to take you to losmen. You can choose to stay in town or at one of the beach hotels within an hour's boat trip - a pleasant option, as most of these places offer a quiet getaway with unspoilt beaches and decent snorkelling. Whether they're in town or on the beach, most hotels also organize tours to nearby islands for snorkelling and sunbathing: the full-day trip to Pulau Sabolo (US$45) includes two dives.
