Ubud's best-known tourist attraction is its Monkey Forest Sanctuary (Rp3000, kids Rp1500), which occupies the land between the southern end of Monkey Forest Road (ten minutes' walk south from Ubud's central market) and the northern edge of Nyuhkuning. The focus of numerous day-trips because of its resident troupe of monkeys, the forest itself is actually small and disappointing, traversed by a concrete pathway. Five minutes into the forest, you'll come to Pura Dalem Agung Padang Tegal (donation requested for compulsory sarong and sash), the temple of the dead for the Padang Tegal neighbourhood. Pura dalem are traditionally places of extremely strong magical power and the preserve of evil spirits; in this temple you'll find half a dozen stone-carved images of the witch-widow Rangda, immediately recognizable by her hideous fanged face, unkempt hair, lolling metre-long tongue and pendulous breasts. South from the temple, the track enters the tiny settlement of Nyuhkuning, whose villagers are renowned for their woodcarvings.
