TOYA BUNGKAH , 8km from Penelokan, is the accommodation centre of the lakeside area and the main starting point for climbs up Gunung Batur. The stylish hot springs, Tirta Sanjiwana (daily 8am-6pm) have a cold-water and hot-water pool (US$5 for both) and a private jacuzzi (US$20). Jero Wijaya (tel 0366/51249), Arlina's (tel 0366/51165) and the new, enthusiastic Gede Mangun's trekking and tour company (tel 0366/51824) provide reliable information about the area and operate travel and tour services. They also offer guides for climbs up Batur (US$10-30 per person, Gunung Abang (US$30-35 per person) and Agung (US$50-75 per person). You can change money and travellers' cheques at several

places in the village. Places to stay line the road in Toya Bungkah, with a few more down by the lakeside. Arlina's (tel 0366/51165; $5-10) is a friendly, popular setup at the southern end of town, with clean rooms, some en-suite. Close to the hot springs, Pualam ($5-10) is small and quiet with good rooms; the lakeside Tirta Yatra (under $5) is more basic; and the nearby Nyoman Mawa II ( Under the Volcano II; no phone; $5-10) has attractive rooms.
