Liuhua Park , on the west side of Renmin Lu (bus #31; daily 7am-7pm; Y2), is a large expanse of lakes, purpose-built in 1958 and pleasantly bland during the week - weekends are hellishly crowded. Liuhua means "Floating Flowers", a name said to date back to the Han period when palace maids tossed petals into a nearby stream while dressing their hair.
