Books and Maps
The glossy brochures available from the tourist information have useful phone numbers, but are otherwise thin on facts. You should turn instead to Marco Turco's now quite dated Visitor's Guide to Lesotho (Southern, 1994), or the small Backpackers' Guide to Lesotho , an up-to-date booklet self-published by Russell Suchet, who runs the Sani Lodge ; some South African backpacker lodges have copies. Some of the lodges stock a very good 1:250,000 topographical map of Lesotho, which you can also get at the Department of Land, Surveys & Physical Planning, the only place where you can get detailed maps suitable for serious hiking.
