The Sirimon route leads up from the Mount Kenya ring road some 14km east of Nanyuki. It has certain advantages: it's the driest route, the scenery is more open, and it's renowned for wildlife. Mountain Rock Bantu Lodge specializes in inclusive three- or four-day guided tours up to Point Lenana using this route, and the Naro Moru River Lodge also offers trips up this way. Prices are around $450 per person (4 days) in a group of four, or $405 per person if there are two of you, including transport to and from the base of the trail, all food and equipment, and a last night at Mountain Rock Bantu Lodge . Park fees are an additional expense. Much cheaper, if you're just looking for a guide, is to enquire at the Cousin Cafe in Nanyuki, or else at Nanyuki River Lodge .

Unpackaged walking on this route is fine if you're in a small group, but you're much less likely to find company up here than on the Chogoria or very busy Naro Moru routes, as there isn't any real "base town" to start from excepting a huddle of dukas on the ring road, 9km from the park gate. The route climbs over the northern moorlands, giving superb views on the way of the main peaks as well as the twin "lesser" peaks of Terere and Sendeyo

(4714m and 4704m), which have small glaciers of their own.

Mountain accommodation on the way consists of Old Moses Camp (3300m, at the roadhead, 4WD access only; $10, students/children $8) and Shipton's Camp   bunkhouses (4200m; $12, students/children $10). Both have recently been renovated with flush toilets adjoining the huts and can be booked through Mountain Rock Bantu Lodge , though you can also simply pay on arrival for a nominal mark-up.
